1. 84% of Nigerians Willing to Vote in 2027 — Yiaga Africa Survey

A new Yiaga Africa survey has found that 84 per cent of Nigerians are likely or very likely to vote in the 2027 general elections. The September 2026 survey covered 2,470 Nigerians across the 36 states and the FCT. However, concerns over electoral violence, institutional trust and vote buying remain potential barriers to actual turnout. 


2. Jigawa Youths Mobilise Support for Tinubu, Namadi

Hundreds of youths in Gumel, Jigawa State, have taken part in a solidarity march supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umar Namadi ahead of the 2027 elections. The mobilisation was organised under the One Million-Man March movement. 


3. Nigeria Records Oil Sector Gains as Crude Theft Declines

Nigeria's oil sector is recording improved recovery as reduced crude oil theft supports production and revenue prospects. Recent reports attribute the improvement partly to increased efforts to protect oil infrastructure in the Niger Delta. 


4. Education Minister Pledges 10 Million Votes for Tinubu

Minister of Education Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa has pledged to mobilise 10 million votes from Nigeria's education sector for President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027. He made the pledge at the inaugural meeting of the APC Presidential Campaign Committee Education Sector Mobilisation Working Group. 


5. Over 1,000 Northern Islamic Clerics Urge Tinubu to Drop 2027 Bid

More than 1,000 northern Islamic clerics have called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider or abandon his 2027 re-election bid, citing insecurity and economic hardship. The position was contained in a communiqué issued after a national conference held in Kano. 


6. 20 Abducted NYSC Members Rescued in Imo

Twenty prospective NYSC members abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road have regained their freedom after seven days in captivity. They were rescued through a coordinated operation involving security agencies and taken to a DSS facility for medical attention. 


7. FCT NLC Begins Indefinite Strike Over Teachers’ Welfare

The FCT Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress has commenced an indefinite strike over grievances concerning teachers' promotion and welfare. The union directed workers across affected sectors to withdraw their services after the expiration of its ultimatum to the FCT Administration. 


8. EU Urges Sokoto Assembly to Strengthen Budget Oversight

The European Union has urged the Sokoto State House of Assembly to strengthen oversight of public spending and improve legislative capacity. The call was made during a policy dialogue on budget implementation, social protection and institutional accountability. 


9. Bandits Attack Sokoto Communities, Police Inspector Feared Killed

Bandits have attacked communities in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State, with a police inspector reportedly killed. The state police command said it was still gathering details about the incident and casualties. 


10. Presidency Acknowledges Hardship Linked to Economic Reforms

Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has acknowledged that more Nigerians fell into poverty following the government's economic reforms, while maintaining that the reforms have also produced progress. 


11. Federal Government’s Domestic Debt Stands at About ₦87tn

Latest debt figures show that the Federal Government's domestic debt stood at about ₦87 trillion as of June 2026. Nigeria's total public debt was reported at ₦166.79 trillion, with domestic obligations accounting for the larger share. 


12. Dangote Group Targets $36bn Revenue in 2026

Dangote Group has projected full-year 2026 revenue of about $36 billion after recording approximately $17 billion in the first half of the year. The projection comes as the Dangote Petroleum Refinery continues to expand its operations and investment plans. 


13. Nigeria Secures $3.5bn Gas Investments, Targets 12 Bcf/d by 2030

Nigeria has secured about $3.5 billion in committed investments across major gas projects that have reached Final Investment Decision. The Federal Government is targeting national gas production of 12 billion cubic feet per day by 2030. 


14. Army Establishes 7 Brigade Headquarters in Oyo

The Nigerian Army has established the Headquarters of 7 Brigade and Garrison in Oyo town as part of efforts to strengthen security operations in the area. The new formation is expected to support security efforts around Oyo and surrounding communities. 


15. Jigawa Police Seek Greater Community Support for Security

The Jigawa State Police Command has called for stronger cooperation between security agencies and communities to improve policing and public safety. The appeal was made during a stakeholders' engagement in Dutse aimed at strengthening public trust and community participation.
