FEC APPROVES FOUR KEY HEALTH INTERVENTIONS TO IMPROVE THE WELL-BEING OF NIGERIANS

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved four major health-related interventions aimed at strengthening Nigeria's healthcare system and improving the well-being of citizens across the country.
Speaking to journalists after the FEC meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, , outlined the key decisions approved by the Council in support of the nation's health sector.
According to the Minister, the approved interventions include:
1. Upgrade of the Kaltungo Snakebite Treatment Centre
FEC approved the transformation of the Snakebite Treatment Centre in into the National Snakebite Research and Medical Centre, Kaltungo, Gombe State. The upgrade is expected to enhance research, treatment, training, and prevention efforts related to snakebite incidents, which remain a significant public health concern in many rural communities.
2. Approval of 10 CNG-Powered Mobile Blood Donation Clinic Vans
The Council also approved the procurement of ten Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered mobile blood donation clinic vans for the zonal operations of the National Blood Service Agency. The initiative is expected to improve blood collection, storage, and distribution while supporting the government's clean energy agenda.
3. Procurement of Tuberculosis Commodities
FEC approved the procurement of essential tuberculosis commodities through the Federal Ministry of Health. This move is aimed at strengthening Nigeria's fight against tuberculosis by ensuring the availability of critical diagnostic and treatment materials nationwide.
4. Procurement of Reproductive Health Drugs and Commodities
The Council further approved the procurement of reproductive health drugs and commodities for the National Primary Health Care Development Agency. The intervention is expected to improve maternal and child healthcare services and enhance access to essential reproductive health products across primary healthcare facilities.
The approvals underscore the Federal Government's commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery, expanding access to quality medical services, and addressing critical public health challenges facing Nigerians.
Health stakeholders have described the decisions as timely and strategic, noting that they will contribute significantly to improving health outcomes and advancing the nation's healthcare system.
