Kwairanga Calls for Stronger Collaboration to Deepen Nigeria’s Capital Market

The Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group), Dr. Umaru Kwairanga, has called for stronger collaboration among key stakeholders in Nigeria’s capital market to enhance the mobilisation of long-term funding for economic development.

Kwairanga made the call in a goodwill message delivered at the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Association of Issuing Houses of Nigeria (AIHN) in Lagos.

He emphasised the need for exchanges, regulators, issuing houses, stockbrokers, investors and other stakeholders to work more closely together to build a capital market that is deeper, more accessible, efficient and capable of supporting Nigeria’s economic ambitions.

According to him, professionalism, innovation and collaboration remain essential to expanding access to capital and strengthening the contribution of the financial market to national economic growth.

Kwairanga also commended issuing houses for their important role in connecting businesses and governments with sources of capital, noting that their contributions have helped transform financing needs into investible opportunities and supported the development of Nigeria’s financial system.

The NGX Group Chairman urged AIHN to build on its achievements over the past three decades while adapting to emerging opportunities and changing demands from issuers, investors and the wider economy.

He stressed that Nigeria needs a capital market capable of mobilising long-term funding, directing capital towards productive enterprises and broadening participation in wealth creation.

“Our task is not simply to preserve what has been built over the last three decades. It is to build a market that is deeper, more accessible and better equipped to meet the financing needs of the economy in the decades ahead,” Kwairanga said.

He further encouraged stakeholders to take advantage of growing connections among African capital markets to expand the pool of capital available to businesses across the continent.

Kwairanga congratulated the President of AIHN, Mrs. Kemi Awodein, past presidents, executive committee members and the entire membership of the association on its 30th anniversary.

His latest intervention further highlights his emphasis on collaboration, innovation and wider participation as critical pillars for strengthening Nigeria’s capital market and supporting sustainable economic growth.
