Kwairanga Calls for Stronger Ethical Finance as Amaanah Finance Makes Grand Debut

LAGOS, October 1, 2026

— The Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX), Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Kwairanga, has called for greater support and innovation in Nigeria’s ethical and non-interest finance sector, as Amaanah Finance officially held its grand launch in Lagos.

The event, held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at The Providence Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, was themed “Financial Independence: Empowering Lives Through Ethical Finance.”

Speaking at the occasion as Chairman of the event, Kwairanga welcomed the emergence of Amaanah Finance, describing the company’s focus on ethical and Shariah-compliant financial solutions as relevant to investors seeking financial products aligned with their values and beliefs.

According to him, the growth of ethical finance can broaden investment opportunities while providing individuals and businesses with alternative financing and investment options.

> “Financial Independence is a goal that all human beings aspire to.”

Kwairanga noted that achieving financial independence requires adequate financial assets and sustainable income streams, stressing the importance of professional financial guidance and carefully structured investment portfolios.

He also acknowledged that the new company could face challenges in its early stages, including limited suitable products, gaps in public awareness and knowledge, and the relatively small number of counterparties that meet strict ethical investment requirements.

Drawing from his experience in institution-building, including his involvement with Jaiz Bank Plc, Nigeria’s first non-interest bank, he encouraged Amaanah Finance to remain focused and resilient as it begins its journey.

He further expressed confidence in the team behind the new financial institution, saying that with commitment and the support of existing players in the growing ethical finance sector, Amaanah Finance can navigate the challenges ahead.

The NGX Group Chairman congratulated the management and stakeholders of Amaanah Finance on the milestone and wished the company success as it commences operations.

The launch brought together stakeholders from the financial sector, business community and other professional circles, highlighting the growing conversation around ethical finance and financial inclusion in Nigeria.
