BALA WUNTI HAILS BELLO SHAGARI’S NAMYO ELECTION, SAYS YOUTH LEADERSHIP IS KEY TO GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT

The CEO of World Energy Council Nigeria, Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti, has congratulated Muhammed Bello Bala Shagari on his election as Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organisation (NAMYO) for the 2026–2029 term.

Dr. Wunti described Shagari’s emergence as an encouraging development for Nigerian youths and a reflection of the growing opportunities for young Nigerians to contribute to leadership and international affairs.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier congratulated Shagari on his election, describing the development as a significant achievement for Nigeria and recognition of his contributions to youth development and international engagement.

In his congratulatory message, Dr. Wunti emphasised the importance of creating opportunities for young people to develop their leadership capacity, contribute to society and take on responsibilities at national, continental and international levels.

He said Shagari’s new responsibility provides an opportunity to advance youth cooperation, peace, sustainable development and meaningful participation of young people across the Global South.

“The success of young Nigerians on the international stage is a source of encouragement to all of us. When young people are given opportunities, mentorship and the right platforms, they can make meaningful contributions to the development of their communities, their country and the wider world,” Dr. Wunti said.

He congratulated Shagari on the milestone and urged him to approach the new responsibility with humility, inclusiveness, dedication and a strong commitment to service.

Shagari, who previously served as NAMYO Vice Chairperson for Africa and President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, is expected to assume office as Chairperson on November 1, 2026, for the 2026–2029 tenure.

Dr. Wunti wished the new NAMYO Chairperson a successful tenure and expressed optimism that his leadership would further strengthen opportunities for young people to participate in international cooperation, peacebuilding and sustainable development.
