Prof. Hadiza Abdullahi Usman has continued to distinguish herself as a notable figure in Nigeria’s healthcare leadership, combining professional experience, academic excellence and institutional administration in her service to the health sector.
As the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, Yobe State, Prof. Usman became the first female to occupy the position at the Centre following her appointment in November 2022. Her career spans more than three decades across clinical practice, academia, medical administration and community service.
Under her leadership, FMC Nguru has continued to pursue initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and expanding access to specialised medical services. In 2026, the Centre recorded the commencement of dialysis services following the remodelling of its Dialysis Complex, representing an important development in renal care for patients in Yobe and surrounding communities.
Prof. Usman has also emphasised the importance of education and professional development in healthcare. In July 2026, she reaffirmed FMC Nguru’s readiness to collaborate with Federal University Gashua in the training of healthcare professionals, reflecting the Centre’s broader role in supporting medical education, training and research.
Her professional record is further marked by extensive academic and clinical achievements. She is a Professor of Gynaecological Oncology and Reproductive Health, a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons and has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications. She was also the first female Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist produced by the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Beyond professional credentials, her leadership journey continues to attract attention for its emphasis on institutional development, staff welfare, specialised healthcare and community-oriented service.
For many observers of Nigeria’s healthcare sector, Prof. Hadiza Abdullahi Usman represents an emerging model of female leadership in medicine—one built on experience, professional advancement, institutional responsibility and service to humanity.
