KWairanga Markets Nigeria’s Vast Investment Opportunities to Global Investors at UNGA 2026 Forum

Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group), Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Kwairanga, has called on global investors to take advantage of Nigeria’s expanding economic opportunities, describing the country as one of the world’s most promising investment destinations.
Kwairanga made the call while delivering a keynote address at the Nigeria Investment Forum 2026, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, under the theme: “Connecting Capital to Opportunity: Investing in Africa’s Next Frontier.”
Addressing diplomats, institutional investors, development finance institutions, business leaders, and government officials from across the world, the NGX Chairman highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms, growing capital market, and vast opportunities across key sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, solid minerals, fintech, and tourism.
According to him, Nigeria has made significant progress in strengthening investor confidence through reforms aimed at improving fiscal discipline, monetary stability, and the overall business environment.
He noted that policy measures introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration—including fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate reforms, and tax restructuring—have contributed to economic stability and helped position the country for sustainable growth.
Kwairanga stated that the positive impact of these reforms has been reflected in the performance of the Nigerian capital market, which has recorded consistent growth in recent years.
He emphasized that the Nigerian Exchange is playing a critical role in mobilizing capital for economic development by providing businesses with access to long-term financing while creating investment opportunities for both local and international investors.
The NGX Chairman also pointed to the ongoing Dangote Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO) as a major milestone for the continent, describing it as one of Africa’s most significant capital-raising exercises.
He stressed that foreign investment brings not only capital but also technology, expertise, global networks, and institutional discipline that can accelerate economic transformation.
Kwairanga further assured potential investors that the Nigerian Exchange has continued to strengthen market infrastructure, improve transparency, and expand digital innovations aimed at attracting millions of new investors into the financial ecosystem.
Describing Nigeria as a nation on the verge of unlocking its full economic potential, he likened the country’s current trajectory to that of China during its rapid growth phase in the 1980s.
“Nigeria is akin to China in the 1980s, a giant that is about to unleash its full potential. I invite you to take the right step and invest in Nigeria at the best time. That time is now,” he declared.
The Nigeria Investment Forum is one of the flagship investment engagement platforms held annually during the United Nations General Assembly, bringing together global investors and policymakers to explore investment opportunities in Nigeria and across Africa.
Industry stakeholders at the event described the forum as a strategic platform for strengthening partnerships, attracting foreign direct investment, and showcasing Nigeria’s economic potential to the international community.
