DR. SAIFULLAHI UMAR COMMENDS GOV. NAMADI OVER AGRICULTURAL TRANSFORMATION DRIVE IN JIGAWA
JATA BOSS HAILS GOVERNOR’S VISION, SUPPORT FOR AGRICULTURE, IRRIGATION AND FOOD SECURITY
The Director-General of the Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Agency (JATA), Dr. Saifullahi Umar, has commended the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, His Excellency Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, for what he described as strong leadership and sustained commitment to transforming agriculture and strengthening food production across the state.
Dr. Saifullahi’s commendation comes amid renewed efforts by JATA to expand irrigation farming and create greater opportunities for farmers to engage in productive dry-season agriculture across Jigawa State.
The JATA Director-General has consistently highlighted the importance of Governor Namadi’s agricultural vision, with the Agency’s official records noting that the Governor, as Chairman of the Agricultural Transformation Council, has provided strong support for JATA’s mandate and transformation agenda.
According to Dr. Saifullahi, the administration’s emphasis on agricultural transformation provides an important framework for modernising farming, improving productivity and strengthening the livelihoods of farmers across Jigawa.
The JATA boss also pointed to the growing focus on irrigation, technology-driven agriculture, value-chain development and food security as key areas capable of helping Jigawa maximise its agricultural potential.
Under Governor Namadi’s administration, the Jigawa State Government established JATA as an agency designed to drive agricultural transformation and modernisation. The Governor has also described the agency as a vehicle for transforming agriculture from predominantly subsistence farming into a more industrialised sector capable of creating jobs, improving food security and strengthening the state’s economy.
JATA has since moved to deepen stakeholder engagement and implementation of agricultural interventions, including the ongoing sensitisation for an irrigation expansion scheme covering selected locations across Ringim, Taura, Miga and Jahun Local Government Areas.
The scheme is expected to support farmers through solar-powered irrigation systems, creating opportunities for year-round farming and helping to reduce dependence on rainfall.
Dr. Saifullahi’s remarks further underscore the role of sustained government support and effective institutional coordination in translating Jigawa’s agricultural potential into measurable benefits for farmers and rural communities.
The Governor’s agricultural transformation agenda has also attracted partnerships with development and research institutions, including the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), with the state seeking to strengthen agricultural value chains, innovation, investment and climate resilience.
With agriculture remaining central to Jigawa’s economy, the ongoing interventions by JATA and other government institutions are expected to remain an important part of efforts to expand production, improve farmers’ livelihoods and strengthen food security across the state.
