Wunti International Academy: Dr. Bala Wunti’s Vision to Raise a New Generation of Global Leaders

 By Insight Tribune News

In a bold effort to redefine educational opportunities and empower future generations, the Chief Executive Officer of the World Energy Council Nigeria, Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti, has unveiled the inspiration behind the establishment of the Wunti International Academy, a world-class educational institution taking shape in the heart of Wunti Community, Bauchi.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement forum organised by the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation (WAKF), Dr. Wunti emphasized that the project is far more than the construction of classrooms and school buildings. According to him, it is an investment in human potential and a long-term commitment to the future of children in Bauchi State and beyond.

The forum, which brought together community leaders, parents, education experts, religious scholars, traditional rulers and other stakeholders, provided a platform for meaningful discussions on how the academy can best serve the aspirations of the people.

For Dr. Wunti, education remains the most powerful tool for transforming lives and communities. Reflecting on his personal journey from Wunti Community to the global energy stage, he acknowledged that quality education was the foundation upon which his achievements were built.

He noted that every milestone he has attained in life can be traced back to the opportunities education provided, stressing that the same opportunities must now be made available to the younger generation.

“What we are building is not merely a school; we are building hope, opportunity and a future for our children,” he stated.

The renowned energy executive explained that the academy is a product of years of planning, determination and commitment by the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation. He revealed that the dream of establishing a world-class school within the community had existed for several years before finally becoming a reality.

According to him, the academy is being established not as a commercial venture but as a strategic intervention aimed at addressing educational challenges and expanding access to quality learning.

Dr. Wunti observed that despite the historical significance of Wunti as one of the oldest communities in Bauchi, rapid population growth has increased pressure on available educational facilities, making it necessary to provide additional opportunities for children within the community.

He further stressed that the academy will be open to children from every part of Bauchi State and beyond, regardless of social status, ethnic background or economic circumstances.

“Our goal is simple: to create an environment where a child from Wunti can compete confidently with children from the world's leading educational centres. Excellence should not be determined by geography,” he remarked.

The proposed academy is expected to integrate modern learning methodologies, cutting-edge educational technology and globally competitive academic standards designed to prepare pupils for future leadership roles in an increasingly interconnected world.

Stakeholders at the engagement forum commended the initiative and described it as a transformational project capable of strengthening educational development within Bauchi State.

The discussions also generated valuable recommendations covering affordability, community participation, cultural values, moral development and sustainable management structures that will guide the academy’s operations.

Participants expressed optimism that the institution would serve as a model for educational excellence while preserving the values and traditions of the community.

In his remarks, representatives of the foundation reiterated their commitment to ensuring that community voices remain central to the development and governance of the school. Plans were also unveiled for continued stakeholder engagement, advisory structures and community representation within the academy’s leadership framework.

With construction nearing completion and preparations advancing steadily, Wunti International Academy is expected to commence academic activities in September 2026.

For many residents, the project represents more than an educational institution; it symbolizes a legacy of service, philanthropy and community development championed by Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti.

As Bauchi State continues to pursue educational advancement, the academy stands as a testament to what visionary leadership and community-driven development can achieve when invested in the future of children.
