The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, has unveiled a comprehensive 10-point security agenda aimed at strengthening law and order, enhancing public safety, and consolidating the existing peace across Jigawa State.

Speaking during his maiden press briefing with members of the press in Dutse on Monday, the Police Commissioner expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for entrusting him with the leadership of the Command, while assuring residents of his unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.

CP Murtala stated that his administration would be driven by professionalism, discipline, accountability, intelligence-led policing, community partnership, respect for human rights, and an uncompromising stance against criminal activities.

According to him, the Command will intensify police visibility through strategic day and night patrols, strengthen security during market days and weekends, and sustain joint security operations in identified flashpoints and vulnerable communities.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the Command would strengthen enforcement against traffic violations, including unauthorized covering of vehicle registration numbers, illegal tinted glasses, and the operation of unregistered vehicles.

In tackling emerging security threats, CP Murtala announced a renewed offensive against illicit drug trafficking and abuse, cybercrime, internet fraud, cult-related activities, political thuggery, electoral violence, and hate speech capable of threatening public peace.

“We shall not allow criminal elements to find comfort in Jigawa State. Our operations will be intelligence-driven, professional, and guided strictly by the rule of law,” he stated.

The Police boss also emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement, noting that security cannot be achieved by the Police alone. He pledged to work closely with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society organizations, transport unions, market associations, educational institutions, and media organizations.

He described the media as a critical partner in promoting public enlightenment, combating misinformation, and supporting crime prevention efforts across the state.

On community policing, CP Murtala urged residents to actively collaborate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities, assuring that all information received would be treated professionally and confidentially.

The Commissioner equally pledged to strengthen synergy with sister security agencies, improve intelligence sharing, enhance rapid response mechanisms, and sustain operations against armed robbery, cattle rustling, theft, vandalism, gender-based violence, communal conflicts, and farmers-herders disputes.

Highlighting internal reforms, he promised to enforce discipline, professionalism, and respect for human rights among officers and men of the Command, while also prioritizing continuous training and capacity development to equip personnel with modern policing skills.

Sending a strong warning to criminal elements, CP Murtala declared that Jigawa State would not serve as a safe haven for lawbreakers, emphasizing that offenders would be pursued and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He concluded by calling on all residents to support the Police in maintaining peace and security, stressing that collective responsibility remains the foundation for a safer and more prosperous Jigawa State.
