Bala Wunti Appointed to Lead World Energy Council Nigeria

Nigeria has recorded another significant milestone in the global energy sector with the appointment of renowned energy expert, Bala Wunti, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the newly established World Energy Council Nigeria.

The appointment follows Nigeria’s official admission into the World Energy Council’s global network, a development expected to strengthen the country’s voice in international energy discussions and policy engagements.

Industry observers describe the move as a major opportunity for Nigeria to play a more influential role in shaping conversations around energy security, sustainability, climate challenges, and economic growth across Africa and beyond.

Speaking on his new role, Bala Wunti emphasized the need for practical solutions, strategic partnerships, and private-sector investment to ensure a secure and prosperous energy future for Nigeria. He noted that the focus would be on building an energy system that is sustainable, inclusive, and capable of driving long-term economic development.

Wunti, who previously served in key leadership positions within Nigeria’s energy industry, is widely respected for his contributions to energy development, innovation, and institutional growth. His appointment is being viewed as a strong endorsement of his experience and leadership capacity.

With Nigeria now taking a more active position within the World Energy Council, stakeholders believe the country is well positioned to contribute meaningfully to global energy conversations while advancing solutions that address Africa’s unique energy needs.
