President Tinubu Establishes National Health Technology Office, Appoints Dr. Obinna Adigwe as National Coordinator

In a significant move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system through innovation and digital transformation, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Health Technology and Data Analytics Office (NHTDAO) and appointed Dr. Obinna Adigwe as its National Coordinator.

According to the Presidency, the newly created office, which will operate under the Federal Ministry of Health, is expected to coordinate Nigeria’s digital health agenda and oversee the implementation of the National Digital Health Architecture approved in November 2025.

The establishment of the office is widely seen as a strategic step toward modernizing healthcare delivery, improving data management, strengthening health information systems, and enhancing access to quality healthcare services across the country.

Dr. Adigwe, who currently serves as Director-General of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, has earned recognition for leading several groundbreaking research and technology transfer initiatives. His achievements include securing an €18 million European Union grant and facilitating the development of Africa’s first Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) training facility.

To ensure effective implementation and accountability, a steering committee co-chaired by Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate and Olaniyi Yusuf will provide strategic oversight for the new office.

The development underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging technology, innovation, and data-driven solutions to improve healthcare outcomes and accelerate the transformation of Nigeria’s health sector.
